An artist hangs up several sketches in an exhibition

Event Overview

Working in a small A5 sketchbook and with a range of pencils, this workshop introduces prospective students of Art & Design to the effective use of a sketchbook (to support the creation of paintings, sculptures, designs or animations) and as a means to test new materials and techniques.

With a focus on the effective use of the pencil within the discipline of observational drawing, this practical workshop will explore how artists and designers use a pencil to recreate contour-line and surface texture, whilst working directly from the subject.

The session will also include examples from the sketchbooks of professional artists.

This session will last around 60 minutes, with plenty of time for audience questions.
