My Exhibition Piece

I am exhibiting three films made during lockdown in response to the phenomena of 'Lockdown Dreams'. During lockdown, there was a recorded increase in people experiencing vivid and distressing dreams due to heightened levels of stress that came along with the Covid-19 pandemic. Since March, I have been making films that intend to induce feelings of the hypnagogic state (the state between being awake and asleep), and waking hallucinations in the viewer.

Art Medium of Preference

Video, mixed media installation, performance.

Why I Did a Master's Degree

I did my undergraduate degree at the University of Cumbria, so it seemed fitting to continue my academic journey here. I was already aware of how the MA was run, having seen it firsthand, and I had a fantastic experience during my undergraduate degree, so it was the right decision. The best thing about the course has been the balance between self-directed learning and assistance from the tutors. They have struck the perfect balance between being there when we need them to be and letting us forge our own practices individually.

What Is Next for Me

I still have one year left, but once I finish I am hoping to go into Curation and Events Management in a gallery or museum, whilst continuing to be a practising artist and doing a PhD.
