Primary Education (3-11) with QTS
I like how the QTS recognition was integrated within the three year degree, meaning I didn't have to do four years for my teaching qualification.
Current student Keeley Ruddock is studying BA (hons) Primary Education with QTS 3-11.
When applying for different universities, I felt that the University of Cumbria was the most welcoming and friendly. The staff seemed to really care about the students, along with this, the campus (Lancaster) was appealing because it wasn't overly large and had a homely feel to it.
As a third year now, I still find every member of staff (academic and non-academic) go that extra mile for students and their colleagues. I also still really like and enjoy the campus, it is peaceful and relaxing and a perfect environment to study in.
Lancaster campus is so close to nature (e.g. the Lake District) and there are many places to go to take a breather from of studying (e.g. Williamson Park). Lancaster has a nice atmosphere and feel to it and there is many places to eat, socialise and walk.
I chose this course as I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a child, it has given me the chance to learn the theory through time spent on campus. Placements have been varied and have given me the opportunity to learn how to out theory into practice.
I am not keen on exams so I preferred the modular assessment of this course. There has been great support from a wide range of people, my Personal tutor - always supporting no matter what the issue, Partnership tutors - visiting me on placement to see if everything is okay with my experience, Financial Support Workers – to help balance money and Support Staff who help with ideas on how to improve the level of academic work.
Teaching is not just about helping children to read and write, there is so much theory and psychology behind the way children learn this course covers it all.
