For Barry, an English and Creative Writing degree was the ideal course to feed his writing passion. However, he had the advantage of already being part of the university!

"I am a lecturer in Policing at the University of Cumbria and a writer of detective fiction. I now have three novels available on Kindle."

How did university change your life? "I became a schoolteacher, then a lecturer, and I gained great satisfaction from both. I would not have been able to do either if I had not undergone my University studies. My writing skills were raised from those of an enthusiastic amateur to a standard fit for publication."

I am so proud of having sufficient faith in myself to become a mature student and the online reviews I have received for my novels.

Barry graduated with a 2:1. "It was a brilliant day and I felt a great sense of achievement. I would certainly be working in a less fulfilling role without my degree. I am studying for an M.A. in Academic Practice at the University of Cumbria. I want to increase my readership and see my novels translated into other languages."
