Biography

Kelly Powell the Programme Leader for the Undergraduate initial teacher education degrees and is a senior lecturer in English and phonics.  Kelly is a campus safeguarding officer.  Before coming to the University, Kelly was a primary school teacher for fourteen years.  During this time she held various responsibilities including subject leader for English, Phonics and PSHE.

Academic and research interests

Kelly is involved in research exploring the impact student teachers can have on the reading abilities of the children they teach.  She has been a co-theme lead for the Community theme and has an interest in researching the role of dance in primary schools.
