Looking for a dynamic course that will give you the opportunities and knowledge to be a skilled outdoor educator? Well, what better place than within 912-square miles of the iconic Lake District National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

You’ll have an outdoor classroom quite literally on your doorstep – with more than 150 lofty peaks, 16 lakes and an abundance of rivers.

During your studies, you’ll develop the professional competencies and knowledge needed to be a skilled outdoor educator, together with an advanced understanding of the practical and contemporary issues within this exciting sector, giving your future career an edge.

Graduate destinations

We have had students move on to working in the outdoor education field in centres and youth organisations, providing instruction for mountain biking, mountaineering and water sports. You'll be well equipped for employment with several work placement opportunities throughout the programme, opening up new doors to help you get the career you want.

Ambleside talks aim to showcase research work underway at university

Talks on the value of time spent outside and the health and the wellbeing benefits for primary school age children learning in the great outdoors are among a series of talks to be held at the University of Cumbria’s Ambleside campus in 2019. The professoriate lectures are a new initiative aimed at appealing to students and locals alike. The lecture series provides an opportunity for Professors at the University of Cumbria to share insights into their work and research and its impact on society.

Further funding sought following interest in south Cumbrian species reintroduction project

Nearly 500 people took part in a series of talks aimed at highlighting the possible reintroduction of species to South Cumbria. The project, called Back on our Map (BOOM) was led by academics from the University of Cumbria’s Centre for National Parks and Protected Areas.
