The University of Cumbria is pleased to be able to offer a number of additional commissioned places on the CSP District Nursing and General Practice Nursing programmes at both degree and masters level.

Hone the essential skills that employers will require of you

  • Part time basis largely via distance learning (*only 5 days’ attendance required)
  • The part time option only two academic years to complete.
  • Programmes are fully accredited by the NMC
  • You will be eligible to be recorded on the NMC register as a Specialist Practitioner District Nursing or General Practice Nursing.
  • Programmes reflect the rapidly changing environment within the field of community specialist practice.
  • Programmes equip you to critically examine and reflect, and encourage and support you to develop as an adaptable and responsive leader and innovator in order to improve quality of care to patients/clients within District Nursing and General Practice Nursing.
  • 50% theory via flexible, distributed learning and 50% learning in your own practice area under the supervision of a qualified sign off mentor/practice teacher
  • Induction to the programme/s can be delivered face to face or online

Graduate destinations

Successful completion of the course will allow you to apply for the NMC Nursing register, recording this qualification as a V100 Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber. This will enable you to work as a District Nurse and progress to work as a team leader in your field.

If you wish to take your learning further, you could use your qualification to study at a Masters level.

A student nurse who visited Cambodia on a Work the World placement returned to the news she had secured her dream job as a nurse at Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary, well ahead of her graduation in November. Jessica Everett, 23, from Penrith, who is a third year adult nursing student at the University of Cumbria, scored a highly sort-after role on Beech Oncology and Haematology ward at the hospital and will take up her position in September.
