What Our Students Think
-
What has stood out most to me during my time at university so far is the experience I’ve gained on placement, particularly the opportunity to work with a diverse range of patients. Each patient presents unique challenges and interacting with people from all walks of life has enriched my learning experience, helping me improve my ability to communicate and connect emotionally with others.
Abigail Sing, Diagnostic Radiography
Second year Diagnostic Radiography student Abigail reflects on her journey to studying at Cumbria, from volunteering to provide medical equipment to developing countries to transferring in to Cumbria to follow her dreams.

Before starting university as a mature student, I was concerned that I would be the only one who was slightly older, and it may be quite a lonely experience for me. That has not been the case at all. Not only are there other mature students on my course, but we are also all friends with each other, regardless of age. I have already, within the first year, made some great friendships and we have had some fantastic nights out.
Carly Dawson, Psychology with Counselling & Psychotherapy
Starting university is a big step for anyone, but for Carly, a student on our Psychology with Counselling and Psychotherapy course, it’s the fulfilment of a long-held ambition. Motivated by her own experiences with mental health support, Carly is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. Despite taking time away from education to raise her family, she never lost sight of her career goals.

The hospital teams were so welcoming, and they taught me so much. Their knowledge is obviously very different to ours and they really wanted to explain more about their healthcare system. They also really wanted to know about what we did at home too, so in some ways, there were mutual learnings, which was unexpected and great.
Aliyah Patel, Children's Nursing
Students on our undergraduate nursing degrees have the opportunity to complete a three-week elective placement abroad. Children's nursing student Aliyah grasped this chance, spending time working and sightseeing in the Philippines – an experience she'll never forget!
