Biography

I studied English Language and Linguistics at The University of Sheffield before completing my PGCE at The University of Cumbria. I then went on to teach English at secondary level for more than a decade. During this time, I became particularly interested in the pastoral aspects of education and became Head of Year at Ulverston Victoria High School for several years, supporting students with a huge variety of personal, behavioural and academic issues. During this time, I headed up a variety of projects in order to ameliorate results and student experience. I also set up a business as a GCSE tutor and worked as an examiner for a national exam board.

After moving to a new town, I opted for a change and decided to take up a different kind of student support role at Kendal College (a Student Experience and Progression Officer), which involved working with T-Level students in finding suitable work placements. As part of this role, I supported Business, Childhood Studies and Land-Based Studies students, liaising with employers to ensure standards were met and upheld for both company and learner. I particularly enjoyed visiting students on placement to assure that work was being completed to a high standard.

These experiences put me in a very good position to prepare for my new role as TPRA, (back here, at the university I loved!), whereupon I enjoy supporting students with any issues, problems and concerns, and working with employers to help them ensure their next generation of the workforce is capable, and above all, happy.
