University of Cumbria Event Manager Carol Milnes said “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Carlisle United on this fantastic community event. The floods had a devastating effect on the local community as well as our own staff and students. Many neighbours in the area haven’t seen each other since December last year and the aim of this event is to really celebrate the city’s flood recovery and amazing resilience of this fantastic community.”
Carlisle United’s Finance Director Suzanne Kidd said: “The club and the community forged some very strong bonds in the wake of the floods, as was seen when our players and staff helped local residents with the initial clean up and clear out of their properties. In return we were overwhelmed, when we asked for help at Brunton Park, to see so many people turn up to give us their assistance. The Community Fun Day is a chance for everyone to come together in recognition of the real Cumbrian spirit we saw in the region at what was a very difficult time. There will be activities for people of all ages to enjoy and it has made us very proud to be able to work with the University of Cumbria on what we think will be an amazing event.”
There is still time for business and individuals to become involved with this exciting event, through sponsorship, donation or in-kind support. Please contact Carol Milnes for more details on 077142 11135 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
