We are delighted to announce that the University of Cumbria has secured £2.5m of funding from the Lancashire Local Enterprise Partnership to help progress with the development of a new teaching block at the Lancaster campus.
Our primary aim to create a sense of place for students and the new bespoke building is part of the university’s ten year vision to invest in our estate at Lancaster. This plan presents opportunities to enhance and reinforce existing spaces, construct new landscape squares and social areas and to create an improved environment in which to live, work and study.
This includes consolidating the campus by demolishing some of the older buildings to create the new spaces and other opportunities which will benefit our students.
Demolition of the site has already begun and the new teaching block will be up and running for the start of the 2017 academic year, providing a modern teaching facility which incorporates a new 220 seat lecture theatre, social learning spaces and 2500m2 of high quality teaching accommodation.

The LEP is investing millions of pounds over the next couple of years to fund modern, well-equipped facilities, such as this one, in order to enable local people to acquire the skills our county’s economy needs and improve their employability as well. The facility at the Lancaster Campus of the University of Cumbria directly addresses skills shortages in the Health and Social Care sector identified in our research, and will provide a future pipeline of skilled and competent higher apprentices and graduates desperately needed by the sector.
