Health fair reaches students' goal
Players from Carlisle United were among supporters of an event staged by physical education students to encourage University of Cumbria staff to consider their fitness.
Health-checks, office games and a ‘beat the goalie’ competition were among the events organised by final year PE students Aaron Newton and Sally Reed at the university's Fusehill Street campus (Thursday 19 April.)
Organised as part of the students’ event management module over 30 staff took part in pre-booked health checks to determine blood pressure, cholesterol and their body mass index (BMI) as well as height, weight and grip. Another 15 made use of a lunchtime walk-in session.
Around £500 was raised for the charity, Every Action Has Consequences, set up in memory of former sports science student Adam Rogers. The 24-year-old died in Blackburn in July 2009 after being punched while acting as a peacemaker during a disturbance.
