Organisations reach agreement to support local entrepreneurs
Budding entrepreneurs stand to benefit from a partnership between the University of Cumbria and Fusion Go which was formalised yesterday. The two local organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Monday 15 February to explore how they can collaborate to develop support of entrepreneurship in the county.
Fusion Go is based in Cockermouth and delivers a business accelerator programme focused on entrepreneurs, start-ups and businesses looking to move onto the next stage of their growth.
The agreement was signed at the university’s Carlisle Business Interaction Centre by Fusion Go founder and director David Jones and Sandra Booth, Pro Vice Chancellor Enterprise, Business Development and Engagement at the University of Cumbria.
David Jones comments:
“I am delighted to deepen the working relationship between Fusion Go and the University of Cumbria through this agreement.
“It builds on the good work we have already done that has helped Fusion Go deliver a great service to its first cohort of entrepreneurs who have been through the Fusion Go accelerator programme. This is designed to be a bespoke service to help them shape and develop their business.”
Sandra Booth agrees, saying:
“Moving to a more official relationship with Fusion Go will be mutually beneficial, allowing us to explore new ways to support and mentor local businesses and to scale up our graduate enterprise programme.
“It fits very well with work already taking place at the university to encourage students to set up their own businesses. Cumbria is a great place to nurture entrepreneurial talent. In the past two years University of Cumbria students have set up 40 businesses and we are keen to support the future growth and expansion of other new companies in Cumbria.”
The university’s Carlisle Business Interaction Centre on Paternoster Row provides similar facilities for small businesses to those at Fusion Go’s Basecamp building in Cockermouth. At both locations entrepreneurs can have access to hot-desking facilities, high-speed wi-fi, meeting rooms and event areas, providing professional spaces for them to create and grow their fledgling businesses.
