If you currently serve (or have recently served) within the Armed Forces and wish to enhance your education, then we are happy to say that you will receive help covering your funding.
Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme
We are proud to be a registered learning provider with the Ministry of Defence's ELCAS scheme. ELCAS is a scheme run by the Ministry of Defence to provide financial support to Armed Forces personnel (both serving and service leavers) to study a course at university. The course should lead to a qualification at Level 3 (i.e. A-Level or equivalent) and higher, including degree level and beyond. You are expected to study a course which is of direct benefit to the service, as well as your own personal and professional development.
Providing that you meet the ELCAS criteria, you can apply for the following:
- 80% of your tuition fees up to £1,000 per year for up to three years - if you have four or more years eligible service
- 80% of your tuition fees up to £2,000 per year for up to three years - if you have eight or more years eligible service
You will be expected to contribute 20% towards your tuition fees which you can pay either in full or in instalments. The grant from ELCAS will be paid direct to the University of Cumbria on your behalf.
How do I apply?
If you’re interested in applying for the ELCAS scheme, then visit their website to find out if you match their criteria. Those who do should submit their application at least 5 weeks before the start of their course. Our Learning Provider’s Reference number is 3046-be sure to include this on your application to study at the University of Cumbria.
The ELCAS website has all the forms and details you need to submit your application, so if you think you might qualify, it’s worth having a look.
If you’re not quite sure whether this scheme is right for you, then please contact one of our Student Development Advisers to get more information.
