Outdoor courses

ClimbingThe facilities for delivering the outdoor courses at the University of Cumbria are excellent, with purpose-built Outdoor Studies Centres, lakeside access and indoor climbing walls.

The location of the Ambleside campus provides unrivalled access to the Lake District fells, crags and rivers.

We have pro-active links with numerous outdoor organisations together with partnerships with national organisations in the field. The staff who teach our outdoor courses have a diverse range of experience with national reputations in outdoor activities, development training and environmental education.

Students have chance to get involved in a wide range of practical activities and to plan their own expeditions and projects.

All courses provide opportunities to take part in international visits as part of an extra-curricular programme. Recent trips, for example, have included skiing, paddling and climbing trips to the USA and a number of European countries.
