The problems of evidence disclosure

Our Policing and Law department are teaming up to bring professionals and students together to debate the hot topic of disclosure in a unique conference.

Failure by police to share evidence with defence lawyers has led to the collapse of over 900 cases last year, including several rape trials. Most recently, Liam Allan was charged with 12 counts of rape and sexual assault, but his trial collapsed after police were ordered to hand over his phone records.

The event brings those with an interest in the profession right up to speed with the latest issues in the justice system and the chance to network with experts, including retired superintendent Paul Duhig of Cumbria Constabulary and former crown prosecutor Linda Vance, who will be heading up the debate on which side the fault lies when it comes to evidence not being properly disclosed in court cases.
