Project Management at the University of Cumbria

Looking to move into project management, or develop your skills further through training in specialist project fields? Then our extensive collection of project management programmes is for you.

Working closely with industry and the Association for Project Management (APM), we've developed a range of short courses, professional qualifications and higher education programmes in project management.

Our aim is to support the development and transformation of project communities through applied education and specialisation, developing talented and experienced project managers who are prepared for the changing landscape of project management across all business sectors.

Training for Organisations

We run most of our courses on an open access basis so that employees can get the benefit of networking, exchanging ideas and developing communities of practice with other professionals. Our open access higher education courses usually start in January and/or September.

We can run courses on a closed cohort basis for individual employers, and can create a bespoke package of training or design development activities to address specific issues and challenges a team or organisation is encountering. Contact us to find out more.

Our project manager apprenticeship course has been designed around the requirements of professional bodies, including the Association for Project Management (APM), so apprentices learn all the profession-relevant skills that they need for a career in project management. As part of this qualification they will achieve the Association for Project Management Project Management Qualification (PMQ) and a BSc Hons degree in Project Management.

Who We Work With

We have a varied portfolio of courses and training, relevant to learners and practitioners from those at entry level, to developing senior practitioners and Subject Matter Experts at Masters and Doctorate level. A number of our qualifications are accredited by the APM.

Over the last four years we have worked closely with industry partners including Sellafield Ltd, Rolls-Royce, and BAE Systems to develop and deliver the Project Academy. We also work with the NHS and other public sector organisations, education, engineering, construction and service industries. The Project Management skills we help develop are suitable for all sectors and industries, supporting development of project management capacity across the organisation.

Project Academy

The University of Cumbria Project Academy brings together all of our education and professional qualifications as an integrated development package designed for people who work in projects. The Project Academy portfolio covers a range of disciplines from project management to leadership and digital skills, and our courses are delivered online and in person in employer locations across the UK.
