Information, Advice and Guidance

We understand how important it is to support your students with their next steps. Our range of talks and workshops for sixth form and college students aim to provide information, advice and guidance at different stages of the cycle. Our team can deliver these sessions in school/college or virtually, and some may also be relevant to parents/carers.

Study Skills Workshop

This interactive workshop aims to teach students about key study skills and motivate them to consider more effective strategies. We discuss note taking systems, mastering memory techniques and time management.
Suitable for: Year 12 & 13
Length: 1 hour
Suggested term: Autumn or Spring

Student Life

Gain an insight into Student Life at the University of Cumbria, including our student accommodation options, Students’ Union clubs and societies offer, and the student services you would have access to as a Cumbria student.

Student Finance

This session focuses on all things Student Finance, including what students could be entitled to with a Tuition Fee and Maintenance Loan. We advise students on how to apply, discuss how student loans will be repaid once they graduate and consider additional support that may be available to them such as scholarships and bursaries.

Interview Techniques Workshop

This interactive workshop introduces students to the different types of interviews that they might encounter. It encourages students to prepare and shows them how they might go about doing this. They end the session asking each other questions in mini-mock interview style.

Personal Statements Workshop

This hands-on workshop aims to get students started with their personal statement writing. The session has been restructured for the 2026 entry changes and provides specific guidance for each section. We provide students with a selection of different activities to provide them with a starting point for writing.

An Introduction to UCAS

In this session, we introduce students and/or parents/carers to UCAS and what to expect throughout the application process. We discuss the UCAS timeline and provide students with advice on how to conduct their own research into universities and courses.

Get Into (Subject of Your Choice)

These subject specific sessions introduce courses that we offer at the University of Cumbria. These can be delivered by our Outreach Team or a member of academic staff and aim to explore individual course areas and the careers they can lead to.

This session encourages students to explore their future study options by providing guidance on degree choices, entry requirements and university life, helping them identify key factors to research before deciding what and where to study.

Why Higher Education?

This presentation aims to provide students with a comprehensive overview of higher education. We tackle some of the myths around higher education, discuss employability and explore some of the more personal benefits to attending university.

An Introduction to the University of Cumbria

We provide an overview of the institutes and courses we have at the University of Cumbria and introduce our different campuses. This session aims to inform students about why we may be a great option for their studies and answer any questions they may have. We can tailor this session to courses specific to a group if desired.
