Biography

Professor Yanguo Jing is the Dean of the Institute of Business, Industry and Leadership at the University of Cumbria and a Professor in AI.
Professor Jing’s primary research interests lie in applied Artificial Intelligence. His recent work focuses on the use of machine learning to capture interaction and user behaviour patterns, which inform the development of intelligent applications. His research has been successfully applied across diverse domains including business, sports science, manufacturing, and assisted living environments. His work bridges academic inquiry with real-world impact.

Professor Jing has led enterprise portfolios generating significant income from public sector organisations, UK government departments, the NHS, and industry. His leadership in international education includes:
•    Supporting the establishment of a University’s campus in China
•    Launching transnational education programmes with international partners
•    Leading executive education and CPD initiatives for government and industry, including the Cabinet Office’s flagship Future Leaders Scheme and the Chevening Ethiopia Leadership Fellowship
•    Delivering consultancy projects in counter-fraud prevention, leadership development programmes, and digital transformation projects
Professor Jing is passionate about using technology to enhance teaching and learning. He is a Principal Fellow of Advance HE. With over a decade of experience in facilitating online education, he has chaired several national workshops on mobile and tablet-based learning. He is a strong advocate for experiential learning and student employability. At a previous institution, he developed a Work-Related Learning framework that was adopted university-wide. He also served as Managing Director of a successful university software company, providing computer science students with real-world experience through live commercial projects.
