ABOUT OUR ALLIANCE

South Cumbria Multi-Academy Trust is working with the University of Cumbria to support the next generation of primary teachers in Barrow-in-Furness.

Led by Chetwynde School, which is the areas only all through school 3-16, the Trust offers a one-year PGCE in Primary Teaching with QTS.

The model is two days study (in Barrow) and three days placement, so students have a chance to put learning straight into practice.

Placements are at across the Trust’s six schools – Chetwynde, Newbarns, South Walney Juniors, Ormsgill, Cambridge and Vickerstown – as well as wider schools to suit the needs of the student and to offer two contrasting experiences.

Students will be guided by experienced mentors in a friendly, supportive environment with opportunities to gain experience in specialist settings.

*Accreditation for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) for September 2025 entry is through the University of Warwick. From September 2026, all students will receive both their professional QTS qualification and their academic qualification from the University of Cumbria.
