Get to know your course like never before

Your Offer Holder Day is specially designed for you. You'll get a feel for what studying your course will be like, with activities that could range from a sample lecture to a tour of your course facilities or even a workshop. You will also learn more about the modules on offer and get to know your future lecturers.

And don’t worry, we’re not assessing you in any way – it’s all about helping you get ready for university. It's also a fantastic opportunity to meet other people who may end up being your future course mates.

Are Offer Holder Days the same as Open Days?

No. Although they do have some similarities, Offer Holder Days are designed specifically for offer holders, providing a real insight into what it’s like to study your chosen course at the University of Cumbria. If you receive multiple university offers, Offer Holder Days can be invaluable for helping you decide which ones to accept. Open Days, on the other hand, are not as tailored to your course; they allow you to get more of an overall feel for Cumbria and the student experience we offer.

Travel Support Scheme

We are committed to supporting those holding an offer with us to be able to attend an Offer Holder Day. So you can experience your chosen course and campus in person, we can provide a contribution of up to £50 towards your travel costs depending on the total mileage travelled to and from the event within the following bands:

30 - 50 miles: £20
51 - 100 miles: £30
101 - 150 miles: £40
151+ miles (& Northern Ireland): £50

This scheme is only applicable to the offer holder and all claims must be made at the time of attending your chosen event. Payment will be made directly into your bank account within 3 weeks of attending your Offer Holder Day.

Terms and Conditions

The mileage claimed should be from the offer holder’s home address and postcode (this will be checked by the university prior to any claims paid using the address provided on your application).
Mileage travelled will be calculated using the shortest available route and for mileage via road, AA Route planner will be used to calculate the distance from your home postcode to the campus postcode (return journey).
Claims are only applicable to attendance on the following dates:
- Wednesday 11 March 2026, Lancaster
- Saturday 14 March 2026, Ambleside
- Friday 20 March 2026, Barrow
- Wednesday 25 March 2026, Carlisle Brampton Road
- Wednesday 25 March 2026, Carlisle Fusehill Street
- Wednesday 25 March 2026, London
- Thursday 26 March 2026, Carlisle Fusehill Street
- Friday 17 April 2026, Lancaster
- Friday 24 April 2026, Carlisle Fusehill Street
An e-form will be made available for the offer holder to complete at the Registration/Help Desk on the day of the event. Claims cannot be made after the event.
Claims can only be made by the person who is holding a current offer of a place to study at the University of Cumbria commencing in September 2026.
Only one claim can be made under this travel scheme, even if the offer holder attends multiple events.
The university does not cover any associated costs of accommodation and subsistence.
Only one claim can be made per household of the offer holder attending the event. Additional claims cannot be made by accompanying guests.
The University of Cumbria reserves the right to withdraw this scheme at any time; however, claims that are already submitted will be honoured after the admin checks required to prove eligibility. Enrolled University of Cumbria students, members of university staff, and family members that live with them are not eligible to claim.
Subject to checks made by the university, payment will be made into the bank account of the offer holder by bank transfer and within 3 weeks of attending the event.

How is an Offer Holder Day different to an Open Day?

Open Days allow you to find out about your course of interest and explore where you might study, as well as to take accommodation tours and discover the support and student life on offer. They are part of your decision-making process and will give you a top-level overview of your course and campus. Whilst you may take part in some interactive activities at one of our Open Days, they are primarily designed to give you an overall feel of what the University of Cumbria can offer.

Offer Holder Days delve deeper into your course, allowing you to take part in lectures and activities that you will experience as a student. They are designed specifically to give you a real insight into what you will do as a university student and get you started on the road to envisaging yourself at Cumbria. It’s a great opportunity for you to chat with our course teams so that you can get to know each other better, as well as meet fellow offer holders and connect with your potential classmates.

Can I attend an Open Day instead of my Offer Holder Day?

Open Days are held throughout the year for those who are exploring university for the first time and haven’t yet decided on their chosen course of study. You can, of course, attend an Open Day, but for the best experience as an offer holder, we recommend that you attend your bespoke Offer Holder Day as they are carefully thought out to give you a deeper experience of your course and prepare you for starting your studies.

What do I need to bring to an Offer Holder Day and can family and friends attend with me?

Don’t worry, we’ll let you know if you need to bring anything specific to your event. We recommend comfortable, casual clothing or appropriate outdoors wear if you’ll be taking part in outdoor activities. Family and friends are also more than welcome to attend with you, but in some sessions, we may need to restrict numbers for specific activities or if we are doing an activity which is based on peer-to-peer networking.

What will my Offer Holder Day Event Programme look like and what will the timings be?

We will be posting our event programmes online in February 2026 so that you can see the full schedule for your Offer Holder Day. We’ll also be sharing more information via email to get you excited for your event. Keep an eye on your inbox so you don’t miss anything important, and also be sure to check your junk mail in case any of our correspondence has slipped in there!

Each event has different timings depending on what your course team are doing on the day, so we’ll let you know your start time via email. You’ll also be able to find this information in your online programme closer to the time.
