Why do we punish? Understanding the Penal System

This masterclass will look at who we punish, why we punish, and the evolution of the modern prison estate in England and Wales. Focusing on the key issues and challenges faced by prisoners in the current prison system, and in doing so invite students to consider a topic in a very different way from which they might have read about in the media.
