Benjamin is currently the Canon Warden at Carlisle Cathedral where he leads on the Cathedral’s wider engagement with partners across Cumbria including with the University of Cumbria. Prior to coming to Carlisle, Benjamin was Vicar of Parishes in the Diocese of Newcastle, covering the most famous stretches of Hadrian’s Wall. Whilst in the Diocese of Newcastle, Benjamin was a trustee and Vice-Chair of Lindisfarne College of Theology, which provides non-residential theological training for the Dioceses of Durham and Newcastle. Before ordination, Benjamin taught History and Philosophy at the University of Bristol and has a PhD in seventeenth-century intellectual history.

Benjamin says of his appointment: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the Board of the University of Cumbria. It has been wonderful to work with the University on projects through my role at the Cathedral and through our regular hosting of graduation ceremonies. I very much look forward to supporting the work of the University and strengthening the bond between the Cathedral and University both in shared service to the people of Cumbria and in the exciting developments for the University in the city of Carlisle.”
