Sally Tait

Biography

I graduated from St Martin's College in 2001 having studied BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies. I initially worked as a qualified nurse in Intensive Care/High Dependency where I developed my clinical knowledge and skills. It was in this area that I found a passion for Renal Nursing and began working on a Haemodialysis Unit. I spent the next 10 years of my career as a senior staff nurse working with patients with acute and chronic kidney failure both within the hub haemodialysis unit and a satellite unit. From this experience, I moved into the role of Peritoneal Dialysis Specialist Nurse in which I was responsible for training and managing patients within their own homes. Progressing from this role to that of the Lead Nurse for Home Dialysis Therapies, I was able to develop the Peritoneal Dialysis service to a Home Dialysis Therapies service with the inclusion of home haemodialysis.

My team were shortlisted for a Burdett Nursing Award in the category "who cares, wins" and I was required to present the work of my service to a panel of leading nurses at the British Library in London. Despite not winning the top award, I am very proud that my team were finalists and up against some incredible and inspiring nursing teams from across the country.

Throughout my nursing career I have always had a passion for teaching and education. I am continually striving to energise the nurses of the future into this challenging, but highly rewarding, profession.
