University open days

Our Open Days are all about giving you a real feel for what life at Cumbria could be like. With campuses spread across Carlisle, Lancaster, Ambleside, Barrow-In-Furness and London, each one has its own character. An Open Day is your chance to explore the place where you might be studying, meet the people who’ll be teaching and supporting you, and picture yourself living and learning here. 

There’s so much to explore! You can: 

• Tour the campus and check out the facilities that matter to you – whether that’s science labs, lecture theatres, art studios or sports halls 
• Visit student accommodation to see where you could be living 
• Hear from academics in subject talks and tasters 
• Chat with current students about what it’s really like to study here 
• Explore the local area – because your surroundings matter just as much as your course 

Each of our campuses has its own unique vibe, so coming along to an Open Day is the best way to find out if the University of Cumbria – and that campus in particular – feels like the right fit for you. 

Absolutely! Lots of students bring parents, carers, siblings or friends along. It’s great to have someone else there to share the experience, ask a few extra questions, and help you take it all in. Just remember, it’s your day, so make sure you take the lead. 

When you book, you’ll be asked “How many people will be attending with you on the day?” – just let us know! 

It really depends on what you want to study! Each of our campuses has its own focus and community. Just find the course you’re interested in, see which campus it’s taught at, and book the Open Day for that location.  

If you’re not sure where your subject is based, don’t worry – when you book an Open Day, our forms will help point you to the right campus. 

Yes, you can! Some of our courses are taught across different campuses, so it’s worth checking out more than one if you want to compare. You’re welcome to book multiple Open Days or attend different campus events – lots of students do. That way, you’ll get a real feel for the different locations and decide which one feels most like home.

Open days are informal events – you can wear whatever you feel comfortable in. 

You’ll probably want to walk around the campus a bit, so comfy shoes are a must. Check the weather too – a brolly or jacket can be a lifesaver! 

Yes – all our Open Days are completely free. You’ll just need to book your place online. We’ll sort the activities, tours and talks – all you need to cover is your travel. 

An Open Day is your chance to dig deeper into the things you really want to know about your course and the University of Cumbria. It’s where you’ll get the answers you won’t always find in a prospectus.  

If you haven’t already, grab a copy of the prospectus first – it’s a handy starting point and might spark extra questions to bring along on the day.  

You’ll meet plenty of people who can help – from lecturers and support staff to current students who can share what life here is really like. Your questions don’t have to be formal or direct; you can simply ask for people’s opinions and experiences. And remember, there are no right or wrong questions – just ask about what matters most to you.
