Catch up on the highlights, stories and considerable achievements of the class of 2023. Eight graduation ceremonies took place at the end of last month at Carlisle Cathedral, which saw us congratulating over 1,000 students.

After 10 years as Cumbria’s Lord-Lieutenant, the Monarch’s representative in the county, Claire retired on 3 July – her 75th birthday. 

And in recognition of her lifelong and outstanding contribution to charity, community, and service to the Monarchy in the county, Claire has had an Honorary Fellowship bestowed up on her by the University of Cumbria. 

Over the last decade, as Lord-Lieutenant, Claire was involved in planning Royal visits to Cumbria, accompanying Royal visitors, and presenting awards on behalf of the Queen, and now the King.

LLB law graduate Elizabeth (Lizzie) Molloy describes her six-year student journey at the University of Cumbria, culminating in her graduation and being awarded the special Spirit of Cumbria prize which is given to a graduate who reflects the values of the university’s values - Progressive, Personal, and Engaged. Overcoming a series of challenges including the Covid pandemic, Elizabeth’s experience has included being a mature student, completing an Integrated Foundation Year and three years of a degree programme, and her roles as peer mentor, student ambassador, and supporting the establishment and growth of the university Law Society and building links with local employers, creating opportunities for graduates and firms.
