What is the Guardian League Table?
Each year The Guardian newspaper produces a University Guide. This guide differs from the other university guides because it is specifically aimed at students who are trying to choose a course.
It ranks universities on all the factors that are most important to young people including how much they will benefit from the teaching, whether current students like the university and the subject and what their chances are of getting a good job. It does not include research scores, as these are of limited relevance to students.
The guide contains a list of measures, all measures are combined into a Guardian score out of 100 - which forms the basis of the ranking.
Here are some of the measures, our scores in them, and what we do to ensure our students have the best possible university experience and start to their law career:
Our teaching goes beyond the traditional. We strive to keep sessions interactive, whilst endeavouring to provide a curriculum that meets the needs of a modern law practice (including digital lawyering), coupled with practical skills that enable our students to feel confident when applying for jobs.
Our curriculum is filled with debates, mooting, critical thinking, and high-profile practising lawyers as guest lecturers. Not to mention our extensive opportunities for work experience, volunteering, and our active Law Society, which organises social events including the annual Law Ball.
First and foremost we have an open-door policy when it comes to support. Each student is allocated a personal tutor, who they can contact for advice and have one-to-one sessions with whenever needed.
What’s more, our strategic partnerships ensure that high-profile practicing solicitors and former judges, including Duncan Curley and Chris Armstrong, deliver guest lectures on our course. In addition to this, our university is part of SCONUL, meaning our students have access to thousands of books, e-books, and journals from universities across the UK (belonging to the scheme), in addition to our extensive library resources.
We offer our students the opportunity to have a detailed one-on-one session so that they can fully understand their marks, grade, and how to improve.
We have set our entry tariff at a competitive level, attracting students from diverse backgrounds and allowing us to work with them to get them on a career path they may never have thought possible. We also offer our course with an Integrated Foundation Year option for those not meeting the entry requirements for the LLB Law degree to support and nurture them to a point where they are able to study our LLB Law programme with confidence.
