Accepting your clearing place

FIND OUT MORE ABOUT YOUR COURSE, YOUR CAMPUS, AND LOCATION

Deciding what and where to study can be daunting but don’t worry, we’ve got you. In your offer email, we will have directed you to look at the offer pages on our website. Make sure you take the time to read through all the information provided here. You will also have a named Applicant Advisor to support you with any questions and queries you may have. Call or email our admissions team and they will get in touch to assist you. We also recommend that you try and attend one of our online events or a campus tour.

MAKE IT OFFICIAL

Once we’ve offered you a place on a course, you need to make it official by accepting it. This lets us know that you're ready to make your final step towards becoming a university student, confirming your course choice and other important details. You only have a limited time to accept your place so make sure you have read the offer email thoroughly, and that you know how long you have to before the acceptance period closes.

Accepting your place is really simple. How you do it depends on whether or not you applied through UCAS...

If you are registered with UCAS, you can accept your place using UCAS Track

  1. Log on to UCAS Track
  2. Go to ‘Add Clearing Choice’ and input the details for your course. This information is in the offer email you received from admissions. If you didn’t get one, email ugadmissions@cumbria.ac.uk and we’ll send you a new one!

That’s it! Once you’re done, UCAS will send you a confirmation email with any next steps.

If you are not registered with UCAS, you can accept your place through email

  1. Look out for an email entitled “University of Cumbria Offer” from our admissions team (make sure ugadmissions@cumbria.ac.uk is on your 'safe' list)
  2. Reply to the email, confirming that you are accepting your place. It doesn’t need to be fancy – a simple one-liner will do. For example:

Dear Admissions,

I accept my place.

I’ll send my documents shortly.

Sincerely, Jo Bloggs

Meeting the conditions of your offer

The offer email contains details of any conditions of your offer. It may be a request for certificates or an academic reference. Don’t worry if you don’t have these ready yet, we know that it takes some time to get these documents together. The important thing is to let us know that you are accepting your place as soon as possible.

Your offer email will tell you if you need a criminal background check or medical for your course. If you do, watch out for separate emails about these checks and start them as soon as you receive the email. We ask you to start the checks quickly after receiving them as these can take time to process.

SORT YOUR STUDENT FINANCE

If you have already applied for student finance, but have changed your course through Clearing, let student finance know as soon as you can.

If you haven’t applied for student finance yet, do so quickly! It can take up to 6 weeks for your student loan to be processed, so it’s essential that you apply soon, to ensure you receive your funding on time.

Our money advisers are also on hand to help you – whether you need budgeting advice or emergency financial support.

CHOOSE YOUR ACCOMMODATION

First-year students in Ambleside, Carlisle, and Lancaster are guaranteed university accommodation. Once you’ve accepted your offer, we’ll email you a link to the online application form.

CELEBRATE!

Call your friends, get some cake and have a little dance because you’ve earned it! With all the boring official parts out of the way, you’re free to enjoy the rest of your summer holiday.

Relax in the sun (or rain!), familiarise yourself with your course, and start packing. Your university life awaits!

Take a look at our accommodation pages and think about where you would like to stay. Although your place is guaranteed, the rooms are first-come, first-served, so get your application as quickly as you can. It's normal to be a little nervous about living somewhere new, but many students will be leaving home for the first time too, and our helpful staff will be there to help you along the way.
