AI and the Refreshed PCF: What Does This Mean for Social Work Practice in Cumbria?
The inclusion of AI within the refreshed Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) highlights the need for a clear, robust and ethical approach to the education and development of social workers throughout their careers. From point of entry to strategic social worker, we need to work together to understand how AI can support practice while upholding the values of the profession.

Event Overview
This online roundtable is an opportunity to discuss the refreshed PCF - sharing where your organisation is currently at, identify emerging good practice, and discuss how we can collaborate to strengthen social work practice across Cumbria.
Following the event, the University of Cumbria Social Work Programme Team will publish a Cumbria AI & Social Work Insight Report, capturing key themes and opportunities for future collaboration across our partner organisations.
As a university, we recognise that we have an important role to play in shaping how AI is adopted within the profession. However, this can only be done well through collaboration with employers, practitioners, educators and people with lived experience.
The University of Cumbria Social Work Programme Team invite you to bring your experiences, questions and ideas so that together we can shape an ethical, practical and socially just approach to AI in social work across Cumbria.
Purpose:
To bring together social work employers, practitioners, educators and students to:
- Explore responses to the updated PCF
- Understand current use of AI across practice settings
- Share emerging good practice
- Build a collaborative approach to innovation across Cumbria
- Identify opportunities for joint learning, research and workforce development
