Biography

Geoff trained as an Engineer in electronics with the BBC. After qualifying Geoff enjoyed an attachment as a Lecturer in Audio Engineering at the BBC’s Engineering Training Department. Twelve years in Engineering included time with Jazz FM plus the Natural History Museum’s Special Effects Department. Geoff moved from Engineering into Project Engineering with Solid State Logic who manufacture large format audio mixing consoles for music recording studios around the globe. For SSL Geoff oversaw the production of consoles for Abbey Road and Warner Brothers. Geoff transitioned from Project Engineering into Project Management by returning to the BBC for a further 22 years. At the BBC Geoff moved swiftly into project leadership where he successfully directed a number of major technology change initiatives including migrating BBC Radio from analogue tape-based production to making radio using software products on conventional IT; migrating the BBC’s newsgathering fleet to IP-based technologies; a major programme to centralise and virtualise the BBC Local Radio tech stack (ViLoR); defining the BBC Tech Group’s sustainability strategy and leading a programme of projects to deliver on that strategy. Latterly Geoff managed a team of project managers delivering technology projects across the UK. In 2021 Geoff enrolled on the Project Management Degree Apprenticeship with the University of Cumbria as a mature student, graduating with a first in 2024. In 2025 Geoff joined the UoC as a Lecturer in Project Management.
