Biography

Rachael is an experienced project practitioner, who brings a wealth of operational experience to the University from brands including English Heritage, De Vere, The National Trust and the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) as Hotel Sales Manager.

She has subsequently spent over a decade in the public sector specialising in destination marketing, visitor economy and place management in the role of the Local Authority's Visitor Economy Development Officer. This included place-shaping and public realm projects such as Morecambe Area Action Plan (leading to Eden Project North), Lancaster Square Routes & Heritage Action Zone, Marketing (digital, print, campaigns & CRM) and multi-agency events management. She project managed Lancaster and Morecambe Bay place-brands, and managed the Local Authority's Business Recovery following the devastating impact of Storm Desmond in 2015.

Rachael joined the University's Professional Services (Marketing) in 2020 as a qualified teacher (PGCE) and marketing and events practitioner. She transitioned into Project Management as Lecturer in 2021 and delivered the inaugural Project Management Summer School. She is currently the Module Lead for HPRO 4007 Project Planning and Control and has taught Project Management modules at Levels 4, 5 and 7 (Face to Face and Online).

Qualifications and memberships

Rachael graduated in 2003 with First Class honours following a first degree in BA (Hons) Tourism and Leisure with French and a Diploma from l'Université Nice Sophia-Antipolis, La Côte d'Azur. As a full-time employed practitioner she subsequently achieved MA in Tourism Planning and Development (2008) and Post Graduate Certificate in Education (2015). Rachael is also qualified by the ILM in Level 3 Award in First Line Management (2010).

Outdoor Education (Paddlesports). 

In her spare time Rachael is a qualified paddlesports coach, freelance water safety kayaker for amateur and professional competitive events including European Championships, and white-water kayaker. She is an experienced independent traveller including Asia, the Indian sub-continent and Himalayas, with recent expeditions including to the Outer Hebrides and circumnavigation of Menorca by sea-kayak.
