Biography

I am a dual-qualified and registered Emergency Care Practitioner (South Africa) and Paramedic (UK) with extensive experience in frontline clinical practice and higher education. I started my pre-hospital emergency care career in 2010 in South Africa, progressing from a Basic Ambulance Assistant to an Ambulance Emergency Assistant, and eventually qualifying as an Emergency Care Practitioner after completing my Bachelor of Health Sciences degree in 2017. My operational experience includes working on double-crewed ambulances in both South Africa and the United Kingdom, in addition to working on a Fast Response Unit (FRU) in South Africa.

After relocating to the UK in 2022, I joined the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust to gain first-hand experience of the UK's ambulance service model before returning to academia. I currently work as a Lecturer in the Paramedic Apprenticeship Programme at the University of Cumbria and maintain my clinical skills as a Bank Paramedic with the London Ambulance Service.

I have a strong passion for teaching, mentorship, and medical rescue. I have experience co-supervising undergraduate research, teaching and assessment of high-fidelity simulations, and supporting students in both clinical and academic settings. A notable part of my career includes deploying with Rescue South Africa to Mozambique in 2019 to provide humanitarian aid following Tropical Cyclone Kenneth.
