Welcome to your course

Welcome to the University of Cumbria and to the MSc Occupational Therapy Programme. You have chosen an exciting career which will enable you to work with a wide variety of people in a range of different contexts. The new contemporary re-validated programme has been designed for graduates who can build on their existing skills as well as develop new skills in occupational therapy. We hope to provide a stimulating but supportive learning environment where students can flourish and ultimately become competent, confident, creative, capable and reflective practitioners.

Welcome week provides an excellent opportunity to meet the staff team, the 2nd year students, as well as your fellow students. You will also be given the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the Campus facilities, the aims and expectations of the masters occupational therapy programme, as well as the city of Carlisle.

We have attached an Anatomy handbook which we hope you will find helpful in preparation for your year one study.

Please also find below a copy of the recommended book / reading list. Please note the essential reading / books recommended for purchase have been identified with an asterisk*. 

These core books will assist you throughout your course of study together with books that you may wish to purchase or access through the University library.

Students are provided with reading lists for each module, they may wish to purchase additional Occupational therapy and related books once they start their programme of study. Students are also able to access books, journals, eBooks and other eresources from Library services.

In addition all students are advised to keep up-to-date with health and social care issues via daily news websites and newspapers.
