Disruptive Innovation

Drawing on the work of Professor Clayton Christensen, this session will explore how new technologies, business models and market entrants can transform and sometimes overturn established industries. We will look at real-world case studies (for example, in digital platforms, AI, retail and manufacturing) and consider: • How disruptive innovation emerges and why incumbent firms often struggle to respond • The skills, mindset and adaptability students will need to thrive in this environment • What this means for career pathways and opportunities in our local and regional economy
