Your Personal Statement

Your personal statement is a key part of your application. Here’s what to research and consider:

  • Be specific – show us you’re committed to your field of nursing
  • Use AI wisely – your statement must reflect your own voice and experiences
  • NMC and NHS core behaviours and values - show us you understand them
  • Being a nurse in the UK – show us you understand what this means

Helpful resources:

Important: Using AI tools like ChatGPT to write all or most of your statement is not allowed. We check every statement for AI-generated content. Poor-quality or AI-heavy statements may lead to rejection. Read A guide to using AI and ChatGPT  to learn how AI can be used responsibly.

Interview Expectations

If you’re invited to an interview, this is your chance to show your knowledge, research, and commitment to nursing.

Tips:

Showcase your understanding of the core values of the nursing profession
Understand the role of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and their framework
Watch our interview preparation video for insider advice

Attendance Rules

  • You’ll receive one interview invitation. If you don’t attend and don’t inform us in advance, your application will be closed
  • If you let us know in advance, we’ll offer one more interview date - missing this second chance will close your application

Reference Requirements

It is a key entry requirement to provide a reference that meets the NMC Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour. Our course team will assess whether your reference satisfies this requirement or not. If it does not, we will request a new reference from you.

You should familiarise yourself with the expectations ahead of time.

Your reference should be from the following:

  • Most recent employer or tutor if an employment reference cannot be obtained
  • They must address whether you meet the criteria based on the NMC Professional Standards Code
