BA (Hons) Outdoor Leadership
Emily, from Norwich, wanted the opportunity to further her knowledge of outdoor leadership; improving her skills for outdoor instructing.
She chose the university of Cumbria for its “great location, enabling me to gain outdoor qualifications while completing my degree. Also the staff seemed lovely and I loved the small campus.”
She adds, “The lecturers care about each student, going above and beyond to help me do the best I can possibly do- while also keeping a realistic perspective and encouraging me to continue getting out and doing what I love. The sea kayak expedition in Scotland for a week in second year was beautiful and Nigel (the lecturer) was so knowledgeable and helpful. The lecturers go above and beyond to help me do the best I can possibly do. My favourite experience at university so far is the sea kayak expedition in Scotland for a week in second year- it was beautiful!"
Since I have completed the third year, I came straight into an outdoor job in NW Scotland leading hill days, crag sessions, sea kayaking and a variety of other sessions.
“The lecturers and other staff have so much time for the students, weather its course related queries or chatting about a good place for a climb.”
Emily says coming to university has changed her life. “It’s given me a great range of experiences and knowledge to equip me for work, additional qualifications, and a support network of loads of staff with a wide range of contacts, I know I can get in touch with them even after graduating.
It’s also enabled me to spend three years in the Lake District, gaining experience and qualifications to a level I wouldn’t have been able to achieve if I wasn’t in such a great place.”
Emily adds, “Since I have completed the third year, I came straight into an outdoor job in NW Scotland leading hill days, crag sessions, sea kayaking and a variety of other sessions. My qualifications are being stretched to their limits, I’m working hard, earning good money and living in a BEAUTIFUL part of the world!”
