A DipHE in Creative Writing allows you to take exactly the same modules as the BA (Hons) Creative Writing students in your first year, and if you pass those you have the opportunity to transfer onto the full three year BA.
This DipHE is a unique diploma that offers the opportunity to study Creative Writing within the vibrant creative community of the Institute of the Arts in Carlisle.
You will get a firm foundation in the craft of writing fiction, creative non-fiction, script and poetry with the option to write in your favourite genre. In addition you will develop skills in digital and new media preparing you for the expanding job market in this area. Through writing for a blog, creating web content and working on a student magazine you will learn valuable skills of editing and publishing and will be able to try out your own growing creative non-fiction work in a range of media. We will encourage you to contribute to external publications such as the Words by the Water publication Watermark.
In our beautiful location at Brampton Road you will be studying in a dedicated Arts Institute within a vibrant creative environment. This means you will have access to the cultural productions of film making, wildlife and media, theatre, art and photography and we expect that this will fire your imagination to create unique interdisciplinary work.
You will want the best advantage when you graduate and whether that's freelance writing, working in publishing or writing content for online media we equip you with the skills and knowledge to enter the job market. As well as gaining some insight into creative industry we give you opportunity to further your employability skills in real world meaningful contexts by making a student production or magazine, contributing to Words by the Water and other literary and cultural festivals such as Borderlines and the Kendal Mountain Festival. You might even find yourself helping Art and Theatre students write their programmes or marketing their performances. On successful completion of the course you will leave us equipped to compete in whatever career you choose.

Creative Writing workshops are small, informal and supportive. We soon get to know you and tutors and your fellow students will be providing feedback on your work throughout your studies.
This is an exciting new single honours degree which has developed from a very successful English and Creative degree. Our National Student Survey ratings for this programme in the place us very high. We scored 100% for student satisfaction in 2016 and the course is rated very highly in areas like teaching, assessment and personal development.
