Learning & Teaching Enhancement (LTE) delivers high-quality and impactful support for the University of Cumbria community to drive the implementation of our Learning, Teaching & Assessment Plan. We work in partnership with academic and professional services colleagues to provide practical, evidence-informed solutions that align with institutional priorities and respond to local needs.

What we do

We offer a comprehensive suite of professional learning opportunities for staff who teach or support learning, including routes to professional recognition aligned to the Professional Standards Framework such as the Postgraduate Certificate of Academic Practice. We deliver a vibrant programme of development activity focused on inclusive practice, assessment and feedback, curriculum design, digital capabilities and the effective use of learning technologies.

From academic induction to ongoing development for colleagues at every career stage, we provide tailored and bespoke support for institutes and teams in response to specific priorities or challenges.

We enable the effective and accessible use of learning technologies, including Blackboard, and associated digital tools, helping colleagues design engaging learning experience that support student success.

We oversee key measures of student success and satisfaction, leading on the development and use of student outcomes and experience data to maximise insight and improve outcomes for all students. This includes monitoring academic performance for our students, including underrepresented groups, and maintaining oversight of our responsibilities to the Office for Students in relation to student outcomes and equality of opportunity.

Student Voice is a central part of our work. We work closely with the Students’ Union and colleagues across the University to manage and coordinate major surveys and feedback mechanisms. We coordinate key student campaigns, seeking to engage students in an ongoing developmental process of co-creation.

Who we are

We align our expertise in academic development, pedagogic practice, and learning technologies to deliver impact across the entire academic lifecycle, from curriculum and assessment design through to delivery, evaluation and enhancement.  We engage widely with sector communities to share expertise, disseminate best practice and bring sector-wide learning back into the University.

External esteem of LTE team members is reflected through Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert recognition, Principal Fellowship and Senior Fellowships of the Higher Education Academy. LTE staff are frequently invited to speak at external conferences and seminars.
