Certificate - Advanced Diabetes Care and Management
This module critically explores advanced knowledge of diabetes complications and the pathophysiology contributing to deterioration in a patient’s health with a diabetes diagnosis. The module allows critical evaluation of the pathways and frameworks used to guide and inform diabetes care in complex scenarios with consideration of the need for shared decision making. This module explores methods and protocols that support healthcare practitioners to monitor, manage and review complex cases of diabetes care.
- Current policies and evidence base, in relation to diabetes management.
- Anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, types and causes of diabetes.
- Diabetes complications and long-term impacts of diabetes.
- Impacts of mismanagement for diabetes care.
- Holistic assessment of a patient with diabetes.
- Use of insulin and oral diabetes medications, glucose monitoring and methods of prevention for diabetes related complications.
Brief case report of a patient that will subsequently be further discussed in the summative assessment, which will consist of a 30 minute presentation.
