Module - Health Assessment in Common Childhood Illness
To enable the development of knowledge and skills required to identify and manage the healthcare needs of children and young people with commonly presenting illnesses.
There is a mandatory requirement that a minimum of 40 credits per academic year is studied unless a formal break from study or programme leader agreement exists.

On successful completion, you will be able to:
- Critically evaluate the needs of the child within a developmental continuum
- Critically evaluate and adapt as age appropriate, a structured approach to history taking, physical examination and communication.
- Critically review and discuss the assessment of common childhood illnesses and their potential differential diagnoses.
- Critically review the management of common childhood illnesses.
- Critically reflect upon the rights of the child when they are a patient.
This module will focus on developing the following knowledge and skills:
- Assessment of child health and development, utilising consultation models
- Assessment, diagnosis, and management of common childhood illnesses
- Legal and professional issues, including consent and safeguarding
Formative Assessment
Formative feedback is provided through individual and group work on Blackboard. Each week you are given both individual and group feedback on your postings by your online tutor. Some of the work will be linked directly to the assessment item and therefore will be invaluable in the development of your written assignment task.
Summative Assessment
Presentation of a clinical case with critical discussion related to the learning outcomes, applying knowledge and understanding gained to practice.

ModuleTuition fees are set annually and are subject to review each year. The University may therefore raise tuition fees in the second or subsequent years of a course, in line with inflation and/or the maximum permitted by law or government policy.
