Module - Patient Safety in Clinical Practice HCPD6269
The aim of this module is to develop an appreciation of the skills and attributes required to ensure patient safety and the influential factors within acute/critical care situations.

On successful completion, you will be able to:
- Appraise the resources and challenges to achieve safe care delivery for patients
- Propose and critically review a solution focussed approach to manage problems, issues and challenges to patient safety
- Demonstrate understanding of the professional values and behaviours which impact on patient safety
- Critically analyse how learning from this module may transform your understanding of your practice.
The basis for this module will be the impact of human factors and ergonomics on patient safety in relation to patients. The module will explore the challenges, problems and issues experienced within health care, workforce & resource planning, communication and human behaviours, team functionality, patient safety legislation and policy.
How you will be assessed
- Formative Assessment
Within the distance learning activities, you will analyse an area of clinical practice which impacts on patient safety and the potential solution required, feedback will directly inform the summative assessment. - Summative Assessment
Oral assessment/presentation
Participation in the distance learning activities and formative components of the module will help prepare you to undertake and succeed in the summative assessment. To be eligible to study this module, you must be a registered healthcare professional. You must demonstrate the ability to study at this level and commit to attempting the assessment. When taken as part of a specific named award, the module content and assessment must be focussed on that subject of the award.

Students who successfully complete this module as a stand-alone module will be eligible for a university transcript of credit.

Tuition fees are set annually and are subject to review each year.
