Module - Preparing to Expand Paramedic Practice HCPD7288

A new module for paramedics looking to expand their practice, whether that be outside of the ambulance service or innovative roles within. Students will have the opportunity to reflect on their experience whilst expanding their knowledge and skills of alternative healthcare areas and non-traditional roles. Offered at both level 6 and 7, PREP provides the opportunity for students to undertake a personal SWOT analysis contributing to the final summative assessment of a portfolio and presentation. This assessment will prepare students to confidently apply for alternative roles as they seek to expand their practice.

On successful completion, you will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate mastery in evaluating transferable skills and the skills required by alternative healthcare areas
  2. Critically review the fundamental professional and legal issues which underpin the expansion of professional roles, including managing risk and maintaining resilience
  3. Apply principles of judgement and diagnostic reasoning to the use of facilities not routinely available in the Ambulance Service setting
  4. Critically analyse how learning from this module may transform your understanding of your practice.

Professional issues relating to scope of practice, managing risk and maintaining resilience, clinical supervision/mentorship, safety netting, red flags, triage, communication strategies, laboratory investigations, reflective practice, alternative healthcare settings and transferrable skills.

There will be a requirement to submit a personal SWOT analysis, which will contribute to the final summative assessment.

The summative assessment will be comprised of an oral assessment/presentation and a written portfolio.

To be eligible to study this module, you must be a qualified healthcare professional.

To be eligible to study this module, you must demonstrate the ability to study at this level and commit to attempting the assessment.

When taken as part of a specific named award, the module content and assessment must be focussed towards the subject of that award.

Students who successfully complete this module as a stand-alone module will be eligible for a University transcript of credit.
