The world economy is no longer contained by national borders. This course will feed your passion for exploring the international management literature, examining the relevance of management studies, and critically assessing how theory can be informed by the current economic climate.

Year one

Market Dynamics (30 Credits)
Critically examine strategic planning, innovation, and adaptive thinking in complex and dynamic business environments. Analyse the interaction between marketing and business strategy in competitive and global contexts. Evaluate marketing’s role in delivering customer value across diverse markets and apply strategic approaches that align with corporate objectives.
People Skills for Managers (30 credits)
Develop the knowledge and skills required to manage people effectively in diverse organisational contexts. Integrate key concepts from Business Psychology, Human Resource Management, Organisational Behaviour, Coaching, and Positive Organisational Scholarship to enhance people management capabilities.
Sustainability and Leadership (30 credits)
Explore theories and practices related to sustainability and leadership in business and other organisational settings. Critically assess the meaning and application of leadership for sustainability across global and local contexts.
Project and Operations Management (30 credits)
Evaluate and apply contemporary approaches in operations and project management. Develop skills in integrating project management methodologies, applying financial principles, and formulating strategies for the sustainable use of resources to enhance competitive advantage and societal impact.
Business Project (60 credits)
Undertake a substantial piece of independent research within the field of business and management. Critically engage with academic literature and research methodologies, demonstrating the ability to analyse and synthesise complex information and apply relevant research techniques.

Teaching & Assessment

How you will learn

This programme integrates theory and practice by providing inputs to the student learning from guest speakers, lectures, practising managers and through supporting assessment.

Students will have opportunities to give and receive peer review on formative assessment and will be guided throughout in developing their skills in this vocational aspect of their personal development.

Primarily, delivery is face to face. However, good use is made of the University’s VLE and other learning resources such as e-portfolio to support teaching and learning. Our academic team uses a wide range of teaching methods including lectures, seminars, workshops, field work, work-based learning including placements, employer based case studies, live projects, guided learning, simulations, discussion groups including virtual forums and other digital formats.

How you will be assessed

You will be assessed on your achievement of the programme learning outcomes, which, in turn, are achieved by meeting the learning outcomes of the modules.

The assessment of the programme learning outcomes will therefore be achieved by assessment at the module level. Selection of the methods for assessment will be determined by the requirements of each individual module and the rationale for selection of those methods will be left to the module specifications.

A key aspect of the programme is that you are able to convert your learning by critically reflecting on practice and experience, in line with the QAA benchmark statements.

This is achieved through both formative and summative reflection throughout the programme. You are expected to be able to demonstrate a range of cognitive and intellectual skills together with techniques specific to business management. You should also be able to demonstrate relevant personal and interpersonal skills.
