Shaping the Future of Barrow
Barrow is entering a period of unprecedented transformation. As a nationally significant centre for advanced engineering, defence, manufacturing and healthcare, the town is attracting major investment, creating new opportunities for people, businesses and communities across Furness and beyond.
In line with our Towards 2030 strategy, the University of Cumbria is committed to being a university in and for Barrow. Our new purpose built campus, places higher education at the heart of the town and creates new pathways into high-value careers, professional development and lifelong learning.
We have already welcomed our first students onto programmes including Mechanical Engineering and Adult Nursing, with further courses being developed in partnership with employers and regional stakeholders to meet the evolving workforce needs of Barrow's growing economy.
Working alongside partners including Furness College, industry, public services and local government, we are helping to build the skills, knowledge and talent that will support the region's future prosperity. We are creating opportunities for local people to study, succeed and build rewarding careers without leaving the area, while attracting new learners and investment into Barrow.
