Module
-
Advanced Electrocardiograms in Clinical Practice (Level 7 HCPD7109)
This module will develop the skill and understanding of an extended range of normal and abnormal cardiac conditions to interpret, analyse and apply knowledge relating to 12-lead ECG with support of evidence-based practice. Learning content will support in the understanding of case study clinical scenarios presenting with cardiac complaints. The module will explore the ability to apply assessment and analysis techniques and subsequent understanding of treatment based on underlying pathophysiology. You will determine application to true clinical practice and demonstrate the ability to associate knowledge.
The module will require you to demonstrate learning in the field of clinical practice, but content delivery and submissions will be via online platforms. You will be provided with a summative portfolio to complete which will demonstrate your ability to analyse ECGs in clinical practice.
Abnormal ECG recognition and conduction pathways
Extended heart block analysis
STEMI recognition and mimic identification
Paced rhythm recognition and complexities
Nutritional deficiencies
Identification of threats to life
Post-resuscitation analysis and determination of patient outcome
Extended evidence-based treatment pathways
On this course you will...
Develop skills that allow you to practise as a confident and competent clinician in the identification and management of ECG-related patient presentation.
Study online, with the ability to bring your own clinical practice into your learning environment alongside other healthcare professionals in their fields of practice.
Enhance your own clinical expertise and professional development from the comfort of wherever you like to study, at a time that suits you.
Be involved in a stimulating and challenging academic and scholarly environment for you to advance your academic and professional development.
During the module you will complete assigned formative tasks which will support ECG recognition skills completing asynchronous tasks designed to encourage learning and development of practice. Case study review and completion will be undertaken, which supports further study toward final paper.

How you will be assessed
Students will write a report based on their learning, alongside an accompanied portfolio which is designed to associate learning into clinical practice.
Overview
Student must be currently working in practice and exposed to ECGs, and have evidence of previous ECG education at the standard of level 6. If in doubt, contact module lead for clarification.
