Short course - Introduction to Coaching Skills
This 1-day course will develop your understanding and provide basic coaching skills to use in your job role.
You will practise tried and tested coaching models, develop your understanding of effective communication, the importance of trust and ethics in coaching, and gain a basic understanding of coaching supervision.
The course is ideal for those interested in becoming a workplace or professional coach. The course provides a good foundation for further studies in Coaching & Mentoring.

This 1-day introductory course provides a practical foundation in coaching and mentoring, designed to support professionals in developing core coaching skills for use in their job roles. You will explore the differences between coaching and mentoring, gaining clarity on how each approach supports personal and organisational development.
Throughout the day, you will practise tried and tested coaching models such as GROW and FACT, and develop key communication techniques including active listening, effective questioning, and managing resistance. The course emphasises the importance of trust, ethics, and non-verbal communication in building strong coaching relationships.
Structured coaching practice is built into the course, giving you the opportunity to take on the roles of coach, client, and observer, with feedback and reflection to support your learning. You will also be introduced to the basics of coaching supervision, contracting, and safeguarding, including 1-2-1 and tripartite agreements.
This course is ideal for those interested in becoming a workplace or professional coach. It offers a solid foundation for further study and development.

HOW YOU WILL LEARN
The Introduction to Coaching Skills short course is delivered face-to-face, on one of our University Campuses- see Key Details for the current location.
The course includes a variety of interactive exercises and maximises opportunities for discussion, networking and collaboration.
Participants are encouraged to share their thoughts, reflections, and experiences throughout the course with an emphasis on how the learning can be applied.
HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED
The Introduction to Coaching Skills short course is not formally assessed however you will participate in practical coaching exercises, with the opportunity to receive feedback and reflect on the model used.
