Tommy had a connection to the university even before he started. "I followed my sister to the University of Cumbria - she did a four year degree in Primary Education, and she recommended I study here."
It was a recommendation he was glad to take. "Our lecturers were brilliant, especially Karen Mills. The support was fantastic and I found that there was enough time to complete the assignments."
The start time was also a big hit with Tommy. "I think starting the course in January was advantageous because you are not competing against September PGCE which is a plus because once you start applying for jobs you will have 6 months of experience under your belt. The way the holidays work is more beneficial for your assignments and other commitments. If you had finished your undergraduate degree, you don’t have to wait till September to start a PGCE. Another big plus, the groups are smaller and you become close with other students and staff."
